How To

We had so much fun designing these resources and hope you love them as much as we do. Included in this document are instructions for customizing and printing your designs. It’s easy!

First, the basics

Digital files in a PDF format are not meant to be customized. This file format is ready for printing.

Digital files in a JPG format can and should be customized to include your logo (if you have one) and your contact information.

You can quickly identify the file type by looking at the file name. Files that end with a .pdf, are PDF file. Files that end with .jpg are JPG files.

How to customize your digital file

Customizing a digital file is easy. Already a pro and know how to customize? Then get to it! Need some help? Continue reading, we’ve got you covered!

For customizing, we recommend using canva.com. This is a free site, but you will need to create an account if you don’t already have one.

If you are new to Canva, or just want to up your game, check out their awesome tutorials.

Ready? Let’s get started!

Log in to your Canva account.
To customize a design you will first need to upload it to Canva. Reminder, JPG files are the ones that can be customized. Once in Canva, customizing is a breeze. If you are new to Canva, we have outlined the steps for you.

1. Click on Create a "new design" located on the left side of the Home page.
2. Click on Custom dimensions, input the appropriate dimensions and click, Create a new design.

Example: The Essential 10 Marketing Card is 5 x 7 inches, so input 5 for width, 7 for height and choose inches (in) from the drop down menu.

3. Name your design at the top

4. Click on Elements on the right and select the square grid under Grids. This will place the grid in the work area. This tool acts like a frame for you to drop images into.

5. With your design template created, it’s time to upload the JPG file. Click on Uploads on the left side and then Upload file.

6. Select the JPG file you want to customize. When the upload is complete the PNG image you selected will appear under the Upload an Image button.

7. Drag your image to the grid so that it completely fills the grid. Need help with grids? Check out this Canva tutorial for additional assistance:.

8. Time to add text and customize! Select Text from the menu on the left side of the design page. Click on any of the 3 text options shown (Add a heading, Add a subheading, or Add a little bit of body text). This will add a block of text to your design that you can alter.

Drag the text block to the appropriate location. Click in the text block to add your contact information (name, phone, email). You can change the font to whatever you like, however, we recommend using either Lato or Joseph Sans Regular for design flow and uniformity.

9. Have a logo? Some designs allow the option to add a logo. To add your logo, upload your logo image (see step #4) then click on it to add it to the design that includes space for a logo. Resize as needed. Add your contact information. Refer to step #8 for direction on how to add text.

If you are not using a logo, choose the JPG file that does not include space for a logo.

10. All done? Download your custom design by clicking the download arrow and choose the PDF Print file format option. The PDF Print format gives you the best resolution for printing. ONLY USE THE PDF PRINT VERSION FOR PRINTING.

Congratulations! You just customized a design in Canva!
